Rush Pleansuk

Gaspard

BIOGRAPHY:

We first became familiar with the name ‘Rush Pleansuk’ when his works were selected to be included in Designer’s Week held as part of the French Cultural festival, or La Fête, some nine years ago. Showcased side by side were the works of top French and Thai designers. The name Rush Pleansuk has since become a household name within the creative community, due to the numerous different roles he plays ranging from furniture designer, product and interior designer, architect and columnist to artist and the manner in which he seems to always find a way to interconnect design philosophy, functionality and artistic values into a profound interpretation all his own.

During his childhood, Pleansuk grew up with his grandparents in Nakornnayok province where he was embraced by the greenery of the surrounding nature, canals, rice fields and wooden houses. His parents later brought him to continue his studies in Bangkok where ordinary life was replaced by the character of the chaotic capital city. Pleansuk has since yearned for the simple happiness and valuable experiences he harvested from the natural surroundings of his youth, insights that have continued to have an effect on his way of life and working process.

During his childhood, Pleansuk grew up with his grandparents in remote province where he was embraced by the greenery of the surrounding nature, canals, rice fields and wooden houses.

Currently, Pleansuk does not only play the role of an Architect, Interior designer, product designer. The decision eventually drove him to more of an artistic practice where he has recently, under his signature “GASPARD,” extended the territory of his philosophy to experiment with the spirit and objects through an artistic perspective.

From his experience working in different fields as an architect, a designer, and an artist, Rush Pleansuk combines what he’s learned with local wisdom in order to produce unique works. Whatever direction the global tendency gears towards, Rush Pleansuk stands true to his beliefs and reveals them through a thoughtful selection of materials, combination of local wisdom and a blend of design skills. His contributions to art and design have granted the character of ‘Asian’ recognition in the international arena through a belief that “valuable art and design is work that integrates memories (the past) and dreams (the future) into our present understanding.”
